T60P freezes on Ubuntu and Win 7

#1 Post by mufakir » Tue Apr 12, 2011 1:58 am

Hi,
I have an IBM Thinkpad T60P, 200785U model. Its got 2 GB RAM.

The problem is simple; it just freezes without any reason or cause. I have Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04 installed in a dual boot sequence and it freezes on both operating systems. Both OS's are fresh installs.

I've researched the subject but failed to find a reason behind it.

Whats causing the problem?

a) RAM
b) Overheating system aka malfunctioning fan?
c) Driver issue?

Please help.

a) MemTest86+ to test RAM (http://www.memtest.org/)
b) Check themperatures (CPU, GPU) in TPFC (http://www.staff.uni-marburg.de/~schmitzr/donate.html), or AIDA64 for example (both windows programs)
c) Check HDD in some DOS tool like MHDD, Victoria or tool from HDD vendor.

Is battery ok? Try running the pc without battery. I once hade this kind of battery problem.
600E (P3-850Mhz), 3*T60 (3*T7200), T400 (8600Mhz/8GB/SSD120GB), T420 (4180-CA3 with Samsung 850 mSATA 250GB)
