Strange T30

#1 Post by jronald » Tue Apr 12, 2011 7:50 am

I picked up a T30 that will post, no issues.
It will go to the IBM screen and stay about 1 minute (normal)
Then it shuts down, like you hit the switch.
I have already stripped it of all add-ons. No wireless card, no DVD-Rom, no Modem, everything I can unbolt, is already off.

Suggestions?

Overheating of the CPU, check the thermal paste (or lack of it).

Worth a try
I dont think it would over heat in less than 2 minutes, but Im scratching my head.

Try another CPU, I'm sure you have a spare.

Try swapping RAM sticks around. I had an A31 (or A30 - can't remember anymore) that behaved in a similar manner, turned out to be a bad DIMM slot... :?:

Already swapped the DIMMS. Wont hurt to swap the CPU while Im checking the fan/thermal paste.

How did you know I had a spare CPU (or 8, maybe 10)? LOL

Thanks
