Questions on enabling CTL+ALT+DEL logon and fingerprints...

#1 Post by jskang » Tue Apr 12, 2011 11:47 am

First, I did try to search to see if there was an already existing topic that might address the questions I have here and found none. If there is a more appropriate topic where I should pose my questions, please point the way...

I am running a T500 with Win 7 Enterprise (64-bit). This system did not come this way. I purchased a volume license copy and did a clean install on a blank HDD. Overall, I've been very happy with Win 7 on this machine. It is definitely miles above the pre-installed Vista which was an utter mess.

My questions:

1. I've noticed with Win 7 that fingerprint logon is really slow. Definitely slower than I remember it being under XP on this same system. I don't recall the speed under Vista (but I've tried to forget Vista altogether, like a bad dream). I'll slide my finger over the scanner and I get no indication whether the scan was successful or not for several moments.

2. Is there any way to enable the CTL+ALT+DEL option for logons even though I have fingerprint logon enabled? Or is this feature gone with Win7? I'm not sure what is "in charge" of allowing/blocking that feature.

Has anyone else encountered these behaviors?

Thanks in advance!

As an update, I've figured out how to enable CTL+ALT+DEL for logon (though I haven't tried it yet) at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308226# ... selfAlways.

My question is what will or won't happen if I also have the fingerprint software active?

EDIT: Well this is interesting. I figured out where I can enable Ctrl+Alt+Delete but it's greyed out. I'm logged in with an AD Domain Account but my account is also set as the administrator.

ctrl alt del login should be the default login method if your computer is joined to a domain.

do you have the thinkvantage fingerprint software installed? you'll need that to enable fingerprint login. this should still work under the ctrl alt del login. i never tried this on Win 7 but i remember it working on XP.

Thanks for the response. I do have the fingerprint software installed and I am currently using fingerprint login. I also remember it working the way you recall under WinXP. But it appears that the behavior has changed with Win7.

When my computer starts up (or resumes from hibernation), I get a screen saying to swipe my finger to login. My only other option is to click a button to use an alternate login method. If I hit CTRL+ALT+DEL from that first screen that asks me to swipe my finger, nothing happens. It doesn't take me to a screen to type in login credentials.
