Is there a way to get rid of smoke smell?

#1 Post by Indy452 » Tue Apr 12, 2011 2:51 pm

I bought a laptop used from what happen to be a smoker and I wasn't aware of it. There is a distinct stale cigarette smoke smell that comes from the machine. Is there a way to cut it down or eliminate it?

Its in great condition but the smell bugs me.

Get a can of compressed air. Remove the keyboard and just let it rip, paying special attention to the fan and heatsink. Failing that, seal it up in a tight container with some activated charcoal for a few years. :?

Replace the keyboard and wipe down the exterior of the laptop with something citrusy (Formula 409 Lemon??) or a stain/odor remover or (what I usually use) plain old Windex. Be sure to try out the cleaner on a small spot before wiping it all over the case. Use a cleaning solution/wipe specially designed for LCD panels to clean the screen. Repeat as needed :) .

^^^
+1 on the keyboard. not sure why they seem to soak up smoke odor. i'd pull the bezel off, too, and leave the unit open to the air for several days.
