Z61T Battery bios upgrade?

#1 Post by blink » Thu Apr 14, 2011 7:12 am

Hi I posted about a problem i was having ( resource conflict pci) with an z61T i have aqquired.

Not really got any further with it,
If anyone can shed any more light i would be grateful, please see original post here:

The only thing so far suggested that may help was a bios update. So was thinking about keeping my eye open for a cheap 2nd hand battery to do this as the original is dead.
Cant seem to find what type of battery it takes, very little info on the lenovo site by the look of it. See that some of the 'copy' ones on ebay say they work with t61 Z61 etc but not sure about the originals. i dont want to spend much (maybe putting good money after bad) so a 2nd hand one for a few pounds with a bit of life for a bios update would suit me fine.
Any suggestions? Thanks
Many Thanks for any advice, shared knowledge & wisdom is a wonderful thing.

You can try a BIOS update or resetting BIOS to defaults. If that does not work , I found a thread with the same issue, and the fix was to replace the systemboard.

Many Thanks Harry i already tried to set to default but no joy im afraid, i am reluctant to try a bios update as i dont have a working battery. If i can get a 2nd hand one with a bit of life cheap enough i may give it a go but dont want to spend too much as if it is more serious issues eg motherboad im not up to replacing it . Trouble is i am still having a bit of difficulty finding which ones work? Its a 14 inch model widescreen but not sure if something like this would work:

Any Ideas, failing that i suppose i could do some research into a battery less bios update?

Very Nice find about a similar issue on the lenovo forums, the link is much appreciated.
Cheers
Andre

You need a T60 compatible battery, NOT a T61/R61 compatible model!

You need a Z60t/Z61t compatible battery, not T60, not T61, not anything else.

Thanks RBS & dr_st. Funny thing is some of the after market ones say compatible with both T60 & Z60/1 etc Wondering if the aftermarket ones are made slightly different  to fit multiple models as im really having difficulty finding a genuine lenovo one that will do this.
Sorry if i sound a bit confused

If you only want to update BIOS without a battery, in the HMM you find the layout for the battery connectors.
Use any working battery from another Thinkpad, find its pin-layout (also in the respective HMM) and connect just the positive and negative poles to the battery-slot in your laptop, using loose pieces of wire.

The confusion is due to there being different Z series models. The 15.4" ones (Z60/61m/e/p) use some batteries (9-cell) which are also compatible with the T60, some T61 and even later models. However, the Z60/61t series are a completely different animal and use unique batteries. Batteries are interchangeable between a Z60t and a Z61t or a Z60m and a Z61m, but not between Z61t and Z61m (for example).
