screen blanking flashing fixed with new invertor

#1 Post by cure » Fri Mar 25, 2005 1:59 am

My screen began flashing off and on, blanking to black and back, at year end. The problem gradually got worse.

Playing with FN-F7 would temporarily stop the problem as would, sometimes, changing the screen angle. What was on the screen while blanked off was still very dimly visible. I wasn't convinced it was the invertor, and indeed feared it might be the screen cables, because changing the screen angle made a difference.

One day I found a screen angle the tp 600 seemed to like and left it exactly there and, with the screen saver and power savers turned off, was able to use it for a month without a problem. But that came to an end today with renewed blanking.

I had already ordered and received a new invertor and cables from ebay so I installed the invertor first and that indeed solved the problem.

Doing so involved removing six screws that hold in place the black cover that frames the screen. Seperating the black cover from the rest of the black display plastic was somewhat challenging. I started at the corners at the top first with thumbnails and a credit card, with little success, and subsequently with the a swiss army knife (the mini blade for cutting holes in cans worked best). The bottom right next to the keyboard was the true challenge as there is a glue strip. The credit card worked well here. I undid the two obvious screws, half removed the inverter, unplugged it, and did the reverse of everything to get back up and running. I did verify that everything worked before reassembling too far. And I gave the screen a good wipe too.

Thanx for the sticky instruction and photos of how to replace a screen bulb as they were of considerable help.
