Adding Card Reader to T400

#1 Post by hunterman223 » Sat Apr 16, 2011 10:11 am

Which parts would I need to add a card reader to the T400? I assume I would need the reader itself and another bezel, but does anyone know the FRUs? And is this even possible?

Wow, after looking at your reply to that topic that seems really involved, I thought it would be a lot simpler than that. I don't want to go tearing it apart too soon, after all I don't even have the machine yet... :) I think I'll stick with a USB or a PCMCIA reader if that's the case.

Would something like this work? I know it says HP laptops, but I would think it would be the same interface.

I used this particular one with my T400 and still use it with my T500. Never had any complaints other than a random BSOD if you eject it while the machine is on. I keep it more or less permanently affixed. The card sits flush with the reader when it is in, which is a very nice plus compared to most other card readers(even on other notebooks) that I've used.

Adding Card Reader to T400

I found a nice little USB SDHC reader instead. Its only 2.99 on eBay, so that alone drew me in. :) Most likely that will do the job for me, since I normally only use card readers for sd cards anyways. PCMCIA does seem like a more elegant solution though.
