W520 ExpressCard seems to be "2.0"

#1 Post by davidhbrown » Sat Apr 16, 2011 1:22 pm

It appears that the W520's 34mm ExpressCard slot supports the faster v2 specification.

(This may be well-known, but I couldn't find it stated in the tabook nor the W520 datasheet, and searching this forum for "expresscard" drew a blank.)

When browsing the BIOS setup, I found a "Express Card Speed" option in Config which can be set to "Generation 1" or "Automatic." The help reads, "Set the transfer speed of Express Card to the desired level of performance. Generation 1 - Some Express Cards are not Generation 2 aware, thus incorrectly respond that they can handle the higher transfer speeds. Automatic - Automatic allows the Express Card to specify which transfer speeds they support."

Still doesn't explicitly say it supports the 5MB/s speed, but sure seems to imply it.

It's about time! Why they didn't support this in the T510/T410/W510 is a mystery to me, but it's about time.

Actually- this answers another question: the USB 3.0 ports should be full speed.

Just say no to the ThinkBook Pro.
