Your system might possibly be infected with spyware/malware. Try scanning with AdAware, SpyBot Search and Destroy, etc. If you detect anything, I would advise you to use Mozilla Firefox as your web browser. It prevents lots of those malicious programs from infecting your system and its free.

Hi
I am well versed in the area of security and my system is hardened to the MAX... I run NOD32, TDS-3, Adaware Professional among other programs and have no reports of any spyware/trojans/viruses/
I do use firefox, but nonetheless, IE is an integral part of the operating system and whether or not I like it, it is important that it works because I must use it for some things (e.g. certain websites that dont support mozilla)

No, sorry. While I use Firefox for most of my casual surfing, I almost constantly have at least one or two IE windows open on my system in order to access some banking/investment sites that require it.T41mbi wrote:Just wondeirng is anyone having troubles with Internet Explorer constantly crashing?

I've been having problems with IE on some of the public computers I use at school crashing since they installed SP2. My guess, as far as I can tell, is that on sites with popup ads (www.omaha.com is the one I notice the most), it seems like the popup blocker is killing IE...I may be wrong, and you may have a different problem, but that's my .02 worth.
Regardless of how well-protected your computer is or how knowledgable you are about PC security, my first guess on IE crashing or constantly dropping an internet connection is malware.
I regularly run Adaware, Spybot and MSAntivirus, and I know for a fact that all three together do not catch nearly everything out there (such as the nasty AOL away-message activex .pif link going around). My recommendation is to try hijackthis, or if you haven't installed anything recently, do a system restore to a point before IE started crashing.
Good luck!

Your cable internet logon software may be the culprit. Can you not logon just using windows alone? You should be able to.

I don't see anything out of the ordinary with your hijackthis log, though I have to say that I am NOT well-versed in what to look for - this just matches up pretty closely to my own setup, and nothing starkly obvious stands out, as I'm sure you already know.
Are you saying that you've done multiple reformats with a clean version of XP, and you still run into this problem? Even before you reinstall components like Java 1.50 and Zone Alarm?
My only other suggestion is to double-check something you probably already have done - Go to IE, choose "Internet Options," Under the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files choose "Settings..."
Then choose "View Objects." You should have a few ActiveX controls installed. Make sure you know what all of these are. If in doubt, try deleting all of them. Then, restart IE and try again.
Good luck!
