[Solved] Switchable Graphics on T500 with Win7

#1 Post by blueice_haller » Sun Apr 17, 2011 9:21 am

Hello,

I recently installed Win7 on my ThinkPad T500. Probably while setup with only one GPU activated in BIOS.
So when I boot with Intel GMA, it loads this driver. And if I boot with ATI/AMD, it also loads the driver correct.

But if I boot with Switchable Graphics it shows me an bluescreen instead of login screen.

Thanks for help.

Turn on Switchable option in BIOS, boot to safe mode, uninstall both graphics adapters and driver softwares. Reboot and see if it loads normally. If so, try installing the graphics driver then.

OP's picture loads fine for me.

STOP 7E

I think I had a similar BSoD while mucking with the drivers for overclocking. Fixed it after two hours of tinkering with it.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Report.xml.2011_04_18_18.13.11.xml from 7vd616ww.exe Setup:
-> The driver installation wasn't successful.

It happens; I tried using Discrete only for a while. Going to Discrete went perfectly smoothly. Going back to Switchable took about two or three hours of fiddling with it with similar error messages/BSoDs. Eventually got it to work; no clue what I did.

Try going to Device Manager, doing a manual driver install, and pointing it at the C:\DRIVERS\VIDEO\...\Packages\drivers\W7 (choose architecture; W76 is 64-bit)

In my device manager there are two graphic cards named "Unknown device"

C:\DRIVERS\WIN\VIDEO\Packages\Drivers\Display\W7_INF\CW107489.inf
When I try to install the driver from the path, I got this message.
German: Treiber ist für diese Plattform nicht vorgesehen.
English: Device Driver not intended for this platform.

I also know this page: Windows 7 BETA Drivers and Utilities. I believed that this is an older driver: 7vd611ww

Amazing, the manual install of the driver only from 7vd611ww led to success. It is Version 8.641.1.0 , newest is 8.752.4.0 .
Now when I do rightclick at "Energy Manager" symbol in can switch the graphic cards.
And with Fn+F7 I start "Presentation Director" and select display settings - but only with Intel.

Thanks again. Do I still need Vista?

7vd611ww is okay, but it suffers from both graphics cards reactivating after resume.

Not sure what you mean with regards to Vista.
