A31 Fan Error

#1 Post by jhbates3 » Sun Apr 17, 2011 1:47 pm

Hello everyone,
I have an a31 and right after the ibm screen i get a fan error message. I still got the same message after I replaced the fan. I removed the keyboard to see if the fan was turning and it wasn't. Can I just replace the connector?

It's probably not a connector problem unless it is visibly broken or a wire is cracked, cut or frayed. I'd guess the new fan is defective, or a LAN pattern on the board is fried, or there is a blown fuse in the fan circuitry. If you have a multimeter you can measure for DC voltage (at power on) at the fan connector. I believe most TP fans are 5vDC. It would say on the fan label.

The new fan worked fine in another system that I bought for parts. Could it be the system board itself?
