#1 Post by jhbates3 » Sat Apr 23, 2011 8:11 pm

Alright everyone, my a31 has a broken usb port. I have a bad motherboard that i pulled from another a31 but the usb ports look good. im gonna take the plunge and try to solder the good usb ports onto the good motherboard. What exactly do i need to do?

Thanks,

My suggestion would be as follows:

a) Forget the whole re-soldering approach, you're putting time and effort into restoring a concept that has 1.1 USB ports to begin with.

b) Buy a PCMCIA USB 2.0 card and call it a day.

While I agree with George, he really did not answer your question
A 15 to 25 watt soldering iron
Desloder Braid or Soldapult
Donor A31
Perhaps some caned air

Work on the donor first, you will probably need to rock the socket out, which means things are going to get hot. You should avoid hot. Work as fast as you can, and if its taking too long, use the caned air to cool the surrounding things off.

Or you could get a 2,0 USB card and call it a day.
