What does the default warranty cover?

#1 Post by Shawn3090 » Tue Apr 26, 2011 11:41 am

I got my t510 in October with the regular included-in-cost 1-year warranty. They already replaced my hard drive when it went bad. However, after a recent trip where i took my laptop, I opened my backpack to find my screen broken. The outside isn't damaged, but you can see where it is internally cracked and it is black/white lines that fill up the screen. (I can't do anything without an external monitor.)

Will that warranty cover my screen repair? It is the HD+ 1600x900 one if it matters.

You can try, but unless you have accidental damage coverage it is not likely to be covered. If you are interested, I am selling that exact LCD screen for a very reasonable price in new condition. It came from a new W510. Send a PM if interested. Moving this thread to the T5X0 forum, because it is not a Howto.

No, thanks. I don't feel confident enough to replace the screen myself. How much would it cost if I got it repaired. How do I get it repaired? The site is so weird.

If you pay shipping both ways I'll install it for free. Total cost = $115. plus shipping. That' s probably about 1/3 of what you'll pay elsewhere ...

How much do replacement screens cost from lenovo? I can't find their spare parts store.

Lenovo parts charges $361 plus tax and shipping for this LCD. The FRU# is 42T0763. You can look it up yourself here -

I looked at it again and the bezel broke too. Does your screen include that?

Also, if I was looking to upgrade to a FHD screen, would I have to replace the whole thing or just the "lcd module"?

This is the deal of the month (or longer). Harry did the same repair on what's referred to as "the forum project T61". I've been using that machine for over 2 trouble free years.

Further, it's probable shipping both ways would be significantly less than what the repair/installation would cost locally.

A couple of things. First the FHD LCD will be in the $200 and up range and is hard to find. If you do buy one, it is a straight swap with your current LCD. You only need the LCD itself. A thread describing what you're up against finding an FHD LCD ...

Also the LCD repair would not include a bezel, although you can get one, ship it with the machine, and I'll install it. For example -

So, you have some options here. I won't install an LCD that I do not sell though...mainly because I don't know it's history or condition.
