Re: mattress recommendations
I'm not sure if they're available in USA, but we've the only ones we've bought are two from UK manufacturer Harrison.
One is normal double bed size and quite firm and the other a beautiful medium firm kingsize and the most amazing sleeping experience.
In UK Harrison mattresses are sold by John Lewis under their house brand, and whilst expensive are beautifully made and worth every penny.

Re: mattress recommendations
My wife and I discovered Austrian Twin beds many years ago. Those Austrians had a brilliant formula ... you take two single mattresses joined by a zip on a king-size divan. Then you have two quilts, or duvets, to suit each persons's preference.
Most women like snug and warm. Most blokes like cool and light. When you want a cuddle you are right next to each other. Afterwards you decamp to your own preference, or stay entwined or whatever you like.
This is not intended as excluding anyone on the basis of gender, sexuality, or religion. Apply it as you choose. One has to be so careful!

Wouldn't the bit in the middle under the zip be uncomfortable due to lack of support?

Not at all. Slumberland (made in Yardley, Birmingham, UK) thought of that and there is no discomfort anywhere one sleeps. Their Gold Seal mattresses are the Rolls Royce of beds. I bought a Gold Seal double divan in 1976 and it is still in use today as a guest bed.hunterman223 wrote:Wouldn't the bit in the middle under the zip be uncomfortable due to lack of support?
We spend one third of our lives in bed so it makes sense to buy the best. Our present 'Gold Seal' Austrian Twin was bought in 2001 and after 10 years we have nothing but praise for it.

Sleep Number® Bed. I'm a "70"
. As ajkula66 says, try it out and see if it works for you (and yours). If you have two people with different sleeping habits (back vs. side), then this type of bed is perfect. The one problem is when there's a big contrast between the two sides; 70 and 25 in my case. Then there can be a tendency to roll into the divot
.

mattress recommendations
My sister and brother-in-law have a Sleep Number that they love, and my cousin has a TemperPedic that he swears by. As for me, just adding a memory foam topper to my existing good mattress/box springs and switching to memory foam pillows has made a world of difference.

Re: mattress recommendations
We have 2 single Adjustamatic Heritage beds, with remote-controlled adjustable headrest and footrest, plus built-in massage units.
"At the touch of a button you can adjust the Heritage Bed to a number of different positions ensuring superb comfort and blissful pain relief for you."
Not cheap, but worth every penny.
We bought those in Ireland and brought them over when we moved to the US.

Sleep Number and divot are my experience. The divot not withstanding, I'm happy with it.
