R40e Power on issue

#1 Post by tomcat2k01 » Wed Apr 27, 2011 9:12 am

Recently acquired a R40e 2684 that doesn't power on when the PB is pushed. The fan starts, power light is green, no beeps, no video (black screen). Same results when connected to an external monitor. Removing the battery and reinstalling it and the machine will always boot with no issue. Next time the machine is shutdown it will not power on again unless the battery is removed and reinstalled. I removed the RAM and Hdd but still the machine did not power on. Swapping out the battery/AC adapter did not make a difference either. Any suggestions?

I noticed your post this morning and was hoping someone else had some ideas...............
That said I'm not the authority on these machines either. Read the thread below and you will get the idea of what you face.

Yes, I read your R40e post. I actually got one R40e with a couple issues from a friend and purchased a 2nd R40e for parts off EBay. I guess I'll repair the one that powers on fine to sell as functional and sell the other one for parts. I was just curious if anyone had run across that same power issue that I experienced.

Problem solved! When I swapped some parts between the two R40e machines the problem moved. The keyboard was the culprit. Now to find a cheap replacement on Ebay.
