Sold: IBM ThinkPad MINI PCI 802.11b/g WiFi LAN CARD

#1 Post by underclocker » Sat Mar 26, 2005 9:58 am

*NEW* IBM ThinkPad MINI PCI 802.11b/g WIRELESS LAN CARD

The IBM part number is 73P2505 on box, and 93P3475 on adapter (IBM uses more than one part number for this adapter)!

Brand new in sealed box. This is the IBM B/G adapter based on the Atheros chipset NOT the Intel 2200. This is the OEM adapter in some models and is an option for CTO and customized ThinkPads.

I've been using these units in an R30, an R40 and a T40. They work flawlessly and the WiFi LED works on the R40 and T40 (R30 doesn't have one) and the on-screen display (Fn-F5) works on both the R40 and T40.

The R40 needed the no-1802.com hack, but the T40 and R30 (surprisingly enough) didn't need it. They just booted right up.

I installed the IBM software/drivers first and the card was automatically recognized and worked.

Here is a link to IBM’s driver page - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-52527

This is a great internal WiFi adapter and reportedly uses less power than the Intel 2200-based adapter. Maybe less than the A/B/G version, too?!

I bought several to upgrade personal laptops, but now have a few spares. I am also selling one on eBay, here's the link for more info and pictures -

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5763368174

Price: $45.00 including USPS Priority Shipping to U.S. locations.

the price from IBM for a brand new reatil card comes out to (give or take a few cents) $70 including s&h&t... OMHO, $10 is not all that much more to pay for a warrenty and assurance of satisfaction.

I guess...

$50 shipped or no deal

nothing personal, but i just prefer to buy from the big cheeses unless i have a good reason not to

Bro-

I'm saying that I'll sell it to anyone in the U.S., including you, for $45 INCLUDING shipping. USPS charges the same amount for all 50 states. I will pay the shipping charge.

I'll take the $50 if you insist, but you only have to pay me $45 :)

Also, please note that this is NOT the Atheros A/B/G card. This is the Atheros B/G card, as found in several ThinkPads. I do not know if IBM ever sold it as an accessory. I do know that it works in a T40 without the 1802 hack and does support the WiFi LED and on-screen display. My main laptop is a T40 that came with the Intel 802.11b card which I removed before installing one of these. It is much faster and works perfectly.

If you don't need 802.11a support, this is a great card. It reportedly draws less power than the equivalent Intel card, and maybe, less than the A/B/G model.

PM me if you'd like to proceed.

It's unbelievable. I wonder if I can even give one away

I thought thinkpads.com people would be thrilled to find this upgrade option. I upgraded three of my ThinkPads, the speed difference for copying songs and pix between machines is dramatic over 802.11b.

As an aside, Bill, thanks for this site. It is a great resource, especially for the ThinkPad fanatic. I was hooked after acquiring a 700 series with monochrome display over a decade ago.

As Ben (bplaut) is only 13, I'd tend to think that he's simply confused about this sale.

woops, my mistake

i think i misread it (or it said it... can't log in at the moment... Gmail 502 server error?) in the email that underclocker sent me

in that case, how much extra for it sent priority... things take an awful long time to send to Hawaii :(

@JHEM-

i am rather experienced with these money related scenarios... youngest computer repair service in Kona  (got to pay for my tech... somehow...)

EDIT

yup, the email said $60 shipped  ... "read twice, post once" 8)

Why is this so complicated?

My price of $45 includes USPS Priority mail. If you'd like some other method, like FedEx overnight, just calculate it yourself, my zip is 20036, and add it to the price. I'll ship it anyway you'd like.

It would have been there in the few days it takes us to work this out.

It's on hold again. A few people are interested, so it has been offered to the first back-up person that PM'd me.
