Welcome to the forums.

It's not very clear what you are asking. Do you have a wireless card and need drivers, of does it have a problem?

Or do you need to purchase a wireless card? If so your options are internal, PCMCIA card, or a USB adapter. Internal cards for the T42 are limited by their era, so if you want the latest technologies and speed you will either need to do some modding, see here or get a recent PCMCIA card or USB adapter from a company like Dlink, Linksys, or Belkin.

Welcome! Like he said, do you know if there is a wireless adapter already installed?
If you know how to get to Device Manager, you can click on the + plus sign next to
Network Adapters and see what's listed, or if there are any "unknown devices"
in Dev. Man.

Pasting this into the Start/Run box will get you to Device Manager:
devmgmt.msc

What is the 7-character model number located on the bottom of the machine - the same sticker where the serial # and production date are - should be something like 237?-???

Internal cards will run you $8 to $16 and more on ebay.
I lucked out and got a couple for between $3 and $5.

USB adapters vary. You can find them on sale at Newegg.com, Meritline.com and MWave.com for $8, $10, $15 and more.
I got a couple for @ $8 or less. They were 802.11n-draft and gave me 150MB throughput. One is two inches long and the other is three inches long. You can find nano (tiny) USB adapters for $10. They're no bigger than the "nano" mouse adapter Logitech makes for many of their models. Most inexpensive models will have 1T1R = one transmit and 1 receive. They'll give you 150MB throughput. I think Airlink has one that protrudes an inch from your laptop with two antennae that gives you 300MB throughput.

I got a Linksys 600N (I think that's the model) PCMCIA card and thought it was fine until I got a D-Link DWA-642 PCMCIA card that is MUCH faster. They're both supposed to supply 300MB throughput but the D-Link is remarkably better. I've seen them on ebay for $10, $16 and more. I got the Linksys for $6.

TODAY, cowboom.com has the D-Link DWA-645 for $5 or $6. The total with shipping is $11. I don't know how the 645 differs from my 642. My 643 has an Atheros chipset which many say finds more access points and networks than other chipsets. Cowboom.com is a BestBuy (the retail store) website.

I've used all of the above in Windows 7.
I've used all but the above USB dongles in Ubuntu (Linux).
