T43 hinge broke need guidence...

#1 Post by Indy452 » Mon May 02, 2011 4:15 pm

I feel like an idiot....I am selling my T43 to a guy at work and I had it all cleaned up looking good running perfect and I bring it to work and I show him and I'm bragging about how tough the "T" series is etc and while looking over the machine, one of the several times the lid was opened and closed the left side hinge just snapped off....WTH?? I'm all flustered and don't know what to say other than sorry to the guy....The thing is he bought it anyway but I'm gonna replace the hinges.

My questions are.....why did the hinge seem to freeze causing it to snap off the pot metal looking base its attached to?

Does someone have a picture/diagram guide I can follow to replace them? Tips?

Thanks...

have a look at the hmm: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-58791

hinges are a pretty big job, i think, but doable if you take your time and care.

Can't really say why, but I had a T40 hinge break just like yours, a few weeks ago during shipping. They are not too hard to replace, but does require partial disassembly of the lid and removal of the palmrest/keyboard bezel. If you haven't already, download the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your machine. That will make the task much easier.

Edit: Looks like I'm a little slower writer than sarbin...
