Warranty Upgrade on 2378-FVU

#1 Post by jo5h » Sat Mar 26, 2005 4:28 pm

I just ordered the 2378fvu and I wanted to upgrade the warranty to 3 years, but I have been told by IBM sales rep. that it is not possible because I live in CA unless the machine is for business use. Is there any other way to upgrade ?

Get the business use coverage and, if asked (you won't be), tell them you're a writer.

I THINK he mean CAlifornia. BUT let this be a reminder of the usefulness of Location Information. (Then, again, some people question whether California is part of the US).

PLEASE update your profile (this means YOU if you're reading this :D) with Location and other relevant information. Not required, but appreciated (and useful)!

i can attest to the fact that milpitas IS in CAlifornia..!

at the east end of hwy 237, i think..

just north of san jose..

these warranty upgrades are byzantine.. most likely due to the fact that they are probably considered to be insurance and insurance is highly regulated..
but not highly enough.. :)

I think you were asking for upgrade for Thinkpad Protection.

I'm assuming you really/actually want to extend your 1 yr to 3 yrs on your
2378fvu, which should not have any restrictions for california.

Just the Depot repair, 3 year upgrade, but there's a restriction for CA if machine is not for business use. I will call IBM and ask for the business use coverage as suggested by JHEM and see what happens.

Nothing "bad" will happen. When/if they ask if it's for Business Use say "yes". IF they ask which business, say "self employed". Doubtful, but if you need a "real" business name, PM me, and I'll put you temporarily on my "payroll" at $.01 salary. :-)

Or, if you have a friend out-of-state, have them call the same rep you have (your rep can make a quote number, give it to your friend). Your friend can buy it for your TP, they can ship the papers to your friend and bill your friend out of state. This is what I did, as the TPP is no longer available in NYS.

Your TPP is good anywhere once you have it. It is getting it that is restricted (at least, that's how it was explained to me).
