I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but Seve has died.

I feel very sad at the passing of one of golf's great players.

After a long battle with brain cancer the man from Pedrena has died aged 54. He was a magician with a golf ball and the first European to win the Masters.

Rest in peace, Seve. :(

It was somewhat surprising that nobody commented on this posting.
Nevertheless, the European Ryder Cup team was influenced by Seve on the last day of the latest contest. They had his name embroidered on their shirts. They won. A fitting tribute to one of golf's greatest players; a poor farmer's son who learnt to play with a forgotten 7 iron and lost golf balls.
His spirit lives on! 8)

I too don't follow golf, but I know the feeling when an athelete you admire dies, and I've experienced the loss of those closest to me, and am a survivor of cancer, so I can certainly sympathize with his friends, faimily and fans. I recall when one of NFL's greatest defense players "Reggie White" died, I felt like I had lost a family member. I knew him back in the late 1980s when I was his mechanic and he used to come preach at my church. This is when he played for the Philadelphia Eagles. He later left to go play for Wisconsin Green Bay Packers, a team that is an American Icon, starting as a hobby for the cities "packers" union. For those that aren't american here, that is a labor union that was formed on one of the larger ports serving the USA's "Great Lakes". All the materials that fueled the "Industrial Revolution" flowed through such ports, and the workers formed a Union that turned into one of the greatest ball clubs our country has ever known. It was sad to see Reg leave my team, but he was able to achieve his Super Bowl Ring with the Packers, so I'm glad he did that before he died at an early age. Also, it's my belief that he died of the same condition that I survived, but his family has never released his detailed cause of death. His funeral was very "low key", much like Australia's Steve Irwin was, at the families request, and I can certainly understand the family not wanting people watching them deal with the loss, but I was hoping in cases like this that the families would realize that famous people receive a lot from the worlds population and owe something back, even of posthumously, and in Steve's case I think it was a big mistake not to accept the "State Funeral" that the government offered... so the world could grieve together. I'm sure it would have been something to remember, much like the famous funeral of Argentina's Eva Peron (Evita), that madonna did an amazing job portraying (the only thing she ever did that I admire).

To Seve, his family, friends and fan, I send my best...
