Compact HD Camera Recommendation

#1 Post by poshgeordie » Sun May 08, 2011 1:37 pm

I need to make some more videos for the website and I believe the most cost effective device will be a small HD camera - cheap as well.

I've got a budget of up to around £70 (pounds sterling)($115), and it has to do the following:

Purpose is to make some videos showing the various reflowing and reballing processes. There will be a combination of close up work from 1 - 2 feet, to more overall shots from 6 -8 feet away

Indoor use in fluorescent tube type light - daylight tubes

High quality non jerky video

Some sort of zoom either optical or digital

To have a video format that's easily editable.

To be mounted on a standard Camera Tripod stand

That's about it.

I may have posted these already, but the two I've already done using our own macro camera is on my Youtube Channel, and shows 0.6mm solder balls on a previously reballed chip being soldering onto the motherboard.

Unfortunately the macro camera's completely unsuitable for normal distance work.

Hi Poshgeordie,

Your budget is small and your requirements are high. Panasonic do decent cameras using Leica optics and you may be able to get hold of a TZ10, or a lower spec version, second-hand to fit the depth of your pocket.

I hope this helps.
