X200 died on me on battery, won't come back - EasyServ...

#1 Post by Bibin » Fri May 13, 2011 8:47 pm

So I had my X200 running full blast on a table while on battery with TPFanControl, hoping to purge some of the chain-smoker smell from the laptop as it was a second-hand item. I came back to the table after an hour, and saw that the laptop was off. It would not power back on. I plugged it into AC and it would not power on either, with or without the battery. Only the power and battery LEDs would come up (showing that the battery was not dead).

I looked up the machine's information and found that it should still be covered by the three year warranty, so I arranged to send it in for servicing and did so. The fellow on the phone told me that they would send it back to me untouched if they couldn't fix it under warranty for any reason. The log goes as follows:
CX 05/13/2011 18:40:00 E Repair complete, shipped to customer
OS 05/13/2011 09:17:00 E Machine being repaired
AK 05/09/2011 18:31:00 E Carrier processing request to ship container
AK 05/08/2011 18:54:00 E Carrier processing request to ship container
It's a strikingly odd log - the average turnaround time was supposedly 6 business days, but they had the repair complete on the same day they received the X200!

Is there a chance that "Repair complete" could in fact specify that they weren't able to do anything under warranty and are simply sending it back to me, or is there a chance that it's truly been repaired (I was told it would probably be a motherboard replacement) so quickly?

As an anxious broke almost-college-student *not* having to source an X200 motherboard and replace it myself for around $300 would be excellent.

Makes me glad I haven't installed the AFFS LCD yet!

Repair complete means just that. You won't find out what part was replaced unless you call and ask or wait for it to be returned. It should list the repaired part on the invoice. If it was the systemboard, obviously that part was in stock. It does not take a trained tech long to replace one, perhaps an hour or two.

Ok, I just wanted to be sure that "repaired" didn't simply specify any state of being finished and sending back, good to know.

I got the machine back, nothing but praise for EasyServe... turns out the system board was fine, and the keyboard had failed, so I couldn't hit the power button :P Problem solved.
