The answer depends on whether someone is offering that machine at that price and whether you have $1050 to pay that person.

I would say that $1050 is not a bad price for that machine. It'll be more than fine for most business tasks. What I would advise is going to IBM's website and purchasing an upgrade to a 3-year warranty, and buying an extra 256 MB DDR so-DIMM from Crucial technologies. Having 512 MB total RAM is more than good enough for most people.

The only thing that ThinkPad won't be good for is games, since the Radeon 7500 is a DX7 part with a 2x3 pipeline design.
Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!

Thanks for the reply.
Well, this is a sealed new item, and my only concern is if I'm paying too much.I'm a noobie , and do not know much about the IBM's..but that is changing slowly thanks to this forum.
So,I gather $1050 is fine...right ?

check the fine prints at the bottom of the list, if it's on ebay, "factory sealed" usually means refurbished.

If you are really vigilant on eBay, you can surely find a better deal.

I did, although I know that my case is VERY exceptional.

For $1,171USD, shipping & tax included, I got a brand new T40p:

Intel Pentium-M 1.6GHz
512MB RAM
40GB 5400rpm HDD
14.1 SXGA+(1400x1050) TFT LCD
64MB ATI Fire GL 9000
16x10x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD
Bluetooth/Modem
1Gb Ethernet(LOM)
802.11a/b Wireless
Secure Chip(TCPA)
UltraNav,
9 cell battery
Microsoft Windows XP Pro
3 Year Warranty

Yes, I know I made out like a thief, but you can find your 'Pot of Gold' too! :D

Your deal doesn't suck, but it's merely 'ok' in my opinion.

If you have a bit, or a lot, of patience, you can probably find something better.

Just have to look around really well.

I just over paid by about $100 for the same machine ( T40p ) 2373G1U

{ http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 6749301603 ]

from pc_and_camera ( they recently changed their name to thinkpad world ) but my take is that I would rather pay $100 to mitigate my risk with a seller who has sold over 4000 laptops than take my chances with a seller with less feedback.

They have a pretty good deal going right now if you can stretch to $1400
[ http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... eName=WDVW ]

but again, like me, you will be overpaying by about $100 but you get bluetooth, 80gb, 1 GB of RAM, the ATI Mobility FIRE GL 9000 at SXGA+ and the 9 cell battey which makes a full day of wireless computing possible.
