X40/Mint 10 Video/Audio Stuttering Problem

A few days ago I put a Kingspec 32GB SSD into my venerable X40 and installed Mint 10 as the sole o/s.

Generally, I'm very pleased with both installations but am unable to play videos with the VLC player, Gnome MPlayer, or Movie Player without running into significant video and audio stuttering problems. Playback is usually decent for the first two minutes, or so, but it gets considerably worse after that.

In XP, with the traditional 1.8" drive, I never experienced any playback problems.

Any feedback/suggestions would really be appreciated.

I had a similar problem on my X40 with mint 10. Mint 9 worked fine, if that helps.

Maybe included driver issues?

I'm guessing that driver compatibility problems comprise part of the issue, but am not sure how to resolve them in Mint.

I'd like to stay with Mint 10, though, as it appears to have superior features as compared to 9.
