That's your choice.

Manufacturers typically play safe and keep the fan running even when the system is way beyond harmful level. Some manufacturers, notably Apple, go the opposite direction, and make the fan run less often than they should. While that gives a quiet notebook, it causes overheating problem for power users who run CPU intensive applications a lot of the time.

All TPfancontrol does is let YOU specify when the fan should start kicking in, and at what speed. It is not harmful as long as you are not so stupid to disable the fan till the system is hot enough to cook an egg. Even if you did that, the worst you could get is your laptop shutting itself down automatically when the temp reached a certain threshold. CPU these days will automatically shut the system down before they got the chance to be damaged by heat.

I resemble that remark.
And the laptop automatically shut itself down with no apparent ill effects.

whell, i could be ignorant about some things, like handling a tpfc, but not so stupid in general (doctor in general and tropical medicine)
i'm trying to figure out why some x220 units don't have the fan problem and others do, like mine
I suppose lenovo is aware of the problem and is working on a fix

More likely is that different people have different tolerance. Few years ago I bought a X61 (X61's fan is way noisier than X200's) and also bought my sister an identical one. After using it for a while, the X61 was just way too noisy for me. When I talked to my sister about it, she said that hers was silent. Thinking that mine was faulty, I tried using her instead and it turned out that hers was just as noisy. The only difference is that I always use mine in the library or in quiet office (I'm a grad student), and she never used her in such environment. It is at that point that I discovered tpfancontrol.

All you need to know about tpfancontrol is here

There is supposedly a BIOS update coming down the pike to fix this.
