my thinkpad went dead last month suddenly. when i pressed power button, the power indicator lights flashes on, then machines shuts off. don't know what's wrong
anyway to fix it?

Let's try this old trick:
Unplug the ac adapter, remove the battery, hard and media drives.
Press the "power" button 10 times in a row, holding it down for 10 seconds each time and 30 seconds the last time around.
Plug the adapter - but nothing else - back in and try to power on.
Good luck.

Lift the keyboard and remove the palm rest. Then apply a little pressure on the ATI graphics chip, and push the power button. I recently had one of these that acted a lot like yours, and it would boot and work as long as pressure was applied to the chip. If that works, you will still need to get the chip re-balled.
If that doesn't work, try putting pressure on the Southbridge chip (under the PCI wifi adapter). Sometimes that works, and reveals that the Southbridge BGA is broken. This can be professionally repaired also.
