Recommended RAM for T60?
Recommended RAM for T60?
What RAM would you recommend for my new (used) T60? Currently there are are two 512MB sticks, and I'd like to replace the more accessible one with a 2GB stick.
Ideally I'd like to buy locally, so here are some options:
http://www.frys.com/category/Outpost/Ha ... 2+SO-DIMM/
http://www.microcenter.com/search/searc ... NewProduct&#
I thought this looked like a good choice:
http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-ValueRAM ... B000Z70E36 (available at Frys)
or this:
http://www.microcenter.com/single_produ ... id=0285253
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: Recommended RAM for T60?
T60's are particulary sensitive about RAM. I have purchased several sticks from this member with very excellent results and unbeatable prices --> http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=93788
I'd start there.
FYI, using two similar sticks (either 512 x 2 or 1GB x 2 or 2GB x 2) will permit the mobo to operate in dual channel mode, boosting peformance by 5-7% or so - supposedly. Although with 4GB total, you'll only be able to see/use 3GB due to a chipset/mobo limitation of that machine generation.

Re: Recommended RAM for T60?
I'm looking to buy the same kind of RAM. Unfortunately, no one in the Marketplace has the chip I'm looking for.
For the Kingston ValuRAM chip, one of the user reviews reports success installing the chip in a T60. Two other reviews report success with different Thinkpad models. What problems might I run into if I install that chip in a T60?

Re: Recommended RAM for T60?
I got this for mine:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231154
Cas Latency:4
Timing:4-4-4-12
Voltage:1.8V
ECC:No
Buffered/Registered:Unbuffered
Multi-channel Kit:Dual Channel Kit
Heat Spreader:No
Parts:Lifetime limited
Works well, and runs at advertised timings.
There are also a number of reviews on the page that confirm the RAM does work with the T60(p)
Even though the BOIS sees all 4GB the operating system only sees 3GB, not the usual 3.25GB you would normally see with a 32 bit operating system.
I knew about the limitation before the purchase, so not a big deal.
*Both RAM modules are under the keyboard so both are just as accessible as one.
