Is switching backlight possible & adding digitizer/ palmrest

#1 Post by Easter3 » Wed May 25, 2011 2:12 am

Has anyone had experience doing retrofit of backlight on w-series thinkpads? Considering whether or not I can get this laptop with WUXGA screen and CCFL backlight and "easily" change it to LED backlight. Can this be done (provided parts can be found) and will this essentially accomplish the same thing as getting the WUXGA RGBLED monitor in the first place (ie. W701 wuxga?) Help, calling all experts!!!

Also, anyone had experience adding the palm rest digitizer (fru# 60y4938) "after the fact" to a w701? Are there any additional parts needed to do the complete exchange?

No, you can't change it- I believe you'd need a new mainboard, screen, and housing- just like you do with a T400/T500.

Also, to add the digitizer, you'll need a new palmrest with the digitizer built in but you won't need a new mainboard for that.

Just say no to the ThinkBook Pro.
