There should be a "12 Step" program for T Series rehabilitation. :P

It could be worse...you could be collecting and restoring Vintage race cars!!!!

LOL  You're not alone. Let's form a support group right here. 8) 8) 8) I think I have the same T-series addiction. It's not so bad- better than being a chocolate addict, which I was for a while, until I started putting on a few pounds. Now I'm hooked on the T's like you. When I see one of these beautiful machines, worth over $1000 just a few years ago... dusty and neglected, lonely and abandoned, being sold like a side of beef on the auction block... at an incredible price.. I get the urge! It's not so bad if you can enjoy them for a while then resell most, give away some to friends, family and charity. But you still end up with a house full of Thinkpads :help: and you begin thinking, "Would anyone pay a couple dollars to tour a Thinkpad Museum here in the heart of New York City?"

As you can see from my modest list of laptops, I am also somewhat addicted, though not nearly as some of our most respectable members.

What helps/limits my addiction is my personal preference / decision to only show interest only in specific specimens - preferably those with a certain uniqueness to them that makes them stand out. For example, having my Flexview T42 and T60 makes any other T4x/T6x models not interesting to me. The fact that T61/T400 have tangible advantages over my T60 is not interesting, since I already have a T410 which dominates both in that department. I also have an affinity to certain Z and X models, for instance a Z61t. This means I will never show any interest in a Z60t. Similarly, X30 and X31, while very nice machines are not attractive to me, since there exists an X32.

This is just my own example, and the criteria of attraction may differ, but this is the general idea that helps me limit to a certain extent my desire to extend my Thinkpad collection. :D

Guess I need to join this support group also. As you can see from my signature, it's not just the T series. I have managed to part with probably as many as I still have, but I need to reduce my holding further. Just one example of each model that interests me would make more since than having four similar A series machines. So, yeah, I still need help!
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

IMO, as long as you are only going after cheap and old stuff, being addicted is okay.

Thank you for support !

What you do with those laptops ? I think you can use only one while others just make the soul happy because we have it .

Take a look at this thread, entitled "If you own 5 or more computers......":

http://67.214.227.38/~thinkpad/forum/vi ... 58&t=32284

As you can see in that thread, I do feel bad about not using all my computers. Right now, I have four laptops and three desktops but all are used often, and so I can justify owning seven machines.

crossing, I wonder why you buy so many T-series Thinkpads though. All of them are about the same size and weight and serve the same purpose, and so you end up using the same one or two all the time and the rest just collect dust. Why not get a 12" ultraportable for traveling, plus a W70* to replace one of your desktops?

Best remedy I have found for my Thinkpad addiction is to not have money to buy the next generation. I currently own:

x200 (sitting on the dock of the bay, watching the tide roll away)
x200 Tablet (used for school)
T61 (installed linux to learn, but don't use)
T400 (docked, used as desktop)
T410 (used infrequently)

Now I want the T420, but monetary restrictions have stopped my addiction! Amen!

A T42P is not quite a bargain at $150. I picked up a X61 with docking for $180 a while ago :)

You have to consider where crossing lives, there will be very few machines available there!

#1 @crossing - My wife figures it keeps me out of the bars :P
#2 @RealBlackStuff Does it matter where you live? eBay anyone :P

Every time i say, "OK, I'm not bidding on another one!", another one turns up that is "That's just too good of a deal to pass up!"

Sad part is, my addiction goes past ThinkPads... old tech fasinates me... I own 8 track player/recorders (yea, they had personal recorders!), C-64's (Own many C-64, C-128's and an SX-64 "portable" computer), 8088's, 286's 386's, etc, etc... Old console gaming stuff (My 5yo son LOVES me for that portion of my addiction :P)... i Figure hey... it's smaller then my high school addiction: Board index » ThinkPad News, Comments & Etcetera » Off-Topic Stuff » Any Car guys? Large PIC's.

Our type of addiction is more of a hobby is how i figure it :)

But don't forget to include the price of international shipping and customs in your calculation.

Hey, it's completely normal to have a hobby. As long as you aren't abrogating any of your responsibilities to indulge your hobby, you don't have a problem.
T420 i5-2520M 2.50GHz 4 GB RAM 64-bit OS WIN7pro SP1

T60 1951-46U Intel Core Duo 1.83GHz 1 GB RAM 60 GB XPpro

TP 600E 2645 PII 366MHZ 160MB RAM 37.2GB WIN98SE

Computers do exactly what you tell them at amazing speeds; this can be bad if what you told them wasn't what you had in mind.

best way is to not look at websites that sell Thinkpads.
Current ThinkPad: T430u, T430s, X1 Carbon, X1, X230t, X220t, X230, X220, X201t, W520, W701ds, T500, T420 and many more
