Returning Thinkpad...sent Recovery CD's
I am returning a Thinkpad that I was sent Recovery CD's for.
Do I need to return them?
(i.e. will the Return Center be looking for them?)
I would save them to use with the Thinkpad that is on its way to me, but I don't want to "foul-up" my return.
Please advise.
Thanks,
Andrew

I'm sure you don't need to send them back. Anything IBM sends you that doesn't require you to mail something back is yours. For instance, I doubt they'd require you to send back your old, broken keyboard if you've replaced that before.
IBM ThinkPad T42p (2373-7XU): 1.8GHz/1024MB, 15" UXGA, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.
T42 (2374-3VU): 1.7GHz/512MB, 14.1"SXGA+, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.

They'll probably trash them, seriously.aamsel wrote:That's what I will do.
I truly doubt that the return center will be looking for them, but they can have them.
You don't need to return them, but if you want to ensure them a useful life, send them to me or Bill for our library of recovery CDs for those who can't get them.

James

Aamsel actually bought two thinkpads, a T42 and a T43 and is keeping the T43. If he returns this set of recovery CDs, he'll probably get another one for the T43 he's keeping - and doing that will cost IBM more money than just keeping the one set and not bothering them again for something he already has

why don't you make it useful for all of us...those that have to pay $45 for those set....
I mean, you can make a iso copy of each disc and send it to bill or anyone who can host it,....then we can upload it to bittorent, or newsgroup....
anyone who wants it can download it and save $45..

Current: T60 2623-D6U, Ideapad S12 (upgraded to XP Pro)
Past: T42

That is true, but the TP I will be keeping is a T43, so I "assume" that would be a different set of recovery CD's.

I already made my own set from the TP itself (which I assume is identical).
To upload 8 FULL FRICKING CD's would take some time, I am afraid.
Also, I don't know that putting these up for download would be technically legal ???? Anyone ????

My conscience already made me put them in the box, which is now in the trunk of my car.
I am returning the T42 because I am getting a base T43 equipped just like I want it. It is an "open bay" with everything added on "a la carte".
Couldn't refuse the price.
For just a hair more than the 2378FVU, I am getting a T43 with 512MB, IBM a/b/g, 60GB 7200rpm drive.
Couldn't pass it up.
If you can get the "open bay" models, please PM me, and I will send you the model number and specs.

I am getting an open-bay T43.
I have to pay to return the FVU, also lost the $50 I sent to get it here in two days. However, IBM will pay to get the 46U back, since the salesperson chose to "baffle me with bs" about options that were/were not available on these T43's. They are covering shipping both ways.

since about october last, all recovery CD sets are on the HDD..
it is assumed that these are the most up to date for that particular machine type..
takes 7 good quality CD's..
and then you are not allowed to make another set..
BUT, if you run a recovery (from HDD or recovery CD set) you can start again and make an additional CD set, but WHY, if multiple sets are the gopal, just copy the first set..
AND, it would be impractical to put a set online in an ISO image.. even zipped up..
i have had a T42 (may model) work just fine on a T42 (october model)..
the two were contemporary.. that is both arrived in november..
same now for the T43 i suspect..
i think this is a better idea for the most up to date versions..
so ibm labeled recovery CD sets will become a memory..
