x200 Ultrabase and Dirty audio

Am running Ubuntu 10.10 with an X201 and an X200 Ultrabase. I've noticed that audio running from the lineout on the Ultrabase is very staticy when the system is otherwise idle (not playing audio). If I take that cable and plug it into the headphone jack, audio is clean (silent when no audio is present).

Anyone else experience this? is there a way to quiet this?
