T60 dvd drive stuck in bay

#1 Post by ibmfreak » Wed May 25, 2011 2:30 am

Hello

I have dvd drive stuck in bay. The switch for dvd drive removal is jammed. I am afraid if I push it hard, there will only be damage. Any hints how I should proceed? or is it simply damage for good? Regards

I'd suggest to remove the keyboard so that you can get access to the drive in its bay. Push it out gently using e.g. a small screw driver. See the Hardware Maintenance Manual - ThinkPad T60/p for hardware removal instructions. The instruction movies - found at Hardware removal and installation - ThinkPad T60, T60p may also be useful. More useful instruction movies available at Lenovo Service and Support Training.

NB: I am uncertain if you can get the drive out without first properly releasing the drive locking mechanism (which I understand you refer to by saying "the switch for dvd drive removal "), so I'd suggest you try get the locking mechanism to "eject", or at least unlock, before attempting to manually push out the drive.

Thank you Johan for answer
I found the answer from the seller. There is screw under the laptop close to bay. First I didn't believe, but that helped!
