Thinkpad Warranty Issue, Need HELP URGENT
Thinkpad Warranty Issue, Need HELP URGENT
I had a three year warranty on my thinkpad T400. I was cleaning my keyboard by removing the keys and 1 key broke. I tried to fix it back with Glue (yes I know, extremely stupid move), and it wrecked that key and 4 other keys around it. So I called Lenovo informing them that my keyboard stopped working. They asked me the reason for it, I said I don't know, it randomly stopped working. They sent me a new keyboard for my system but want me to return the old one. When I send my old keyboard back, is it possible they can charge me for the new keyboard after finding out what actually happened? Is there anything I can do to cover this up? Also I had the basic warranty extension, not the accidental coverage.

Return the bad keyboard; your sins will (most likely) be forgiven! [Read the PM (Private Message) that I send you.]

Welcome to the forum! (Please add your location to your profile.)
I won't comment on whether or not your warranty claim is justified...of course, if you were cleaning the keyboard because the keys weren't performing as expected, then, I suppose you were taking appropriate steps prior to calling support...
However, of note, if the return label reads "environmental", then returning the old part is OPTIONAL!

As others have noted, it is entirely your issue and not Lenovo's. But keyboards are cheap, and so they likely will not spend the money to come after you. Let's just hope so in any event. ... JDH

The keyboard should not "break" when cleaning it. It broke under normal usage as the keyboard does need to be cleaned periodically. Wouldn't worry about it.nikJ wrote:I had a three year warranty on my thinkpad T400. I was cleaning my keyboard by removing the keys and 1 key broke. The keycaps come off most easily in a specific direction. It's different for each maker of the keyboard, so you'll have to try it and see.

Related question... if you purchase extended warranty with onsite service, does this cover international travel...? Example, you buy your machine in the USA but need service during a business trip to South America... will Lenovo provide the same warranty and service...?

It depends a great deal on the country concerned..... in general if you are in a metro area you will probably get a similar service level, but if you are in a rural or remote area, the service level could be quite different.Alejandro Audisio wrote:....will Lenovo provide the same warranty and service...?
