X24 WiFi Card

#1 Post by jonsteck » Thu May 26, 2011 11:03 am

I have an X24 that I have running PCLinuxOS on.
The MiniPCI card that is in it works but only supports WEP security.
Is there a MiniPCI card that I can get that will work in the X24 and support WPA security?

Thanks
Jon

The Intel 2200BG is a very good card for that, especially if it was issued by IBM and has an IBM P/N or FRU.

You will still need to patch the bios with the no-1802 fix otherwise you will get an error on boot.

I've used both the 2200 and 2915 cards on my X30 and they worked with WPA in Windows and Linux.

Hi Jon,

will ship the card tomorrow. In the meantime, you can read the article below about the no-1802 error.
You can also download the CD ISO image file you will need to defeat the error:

http://www.command-tab.com/2006/02/26/t ... error-fix/

Instructions you will follow when you get the card:

(1) Download and burn the no-1802 utility ISO image to a blank CD- this will create a DOS bootable CD
(2) *** WITHOUT THE WIRELESS CARD PLUGGED IN *** boot from the no-1802 CD and follow the on-screen instructions to remove the no-1802 error
(3) Install the Intel 2200BG Card and proper driver.
Windows XP:

Linux:

P.S. I tested your card and the no-1802 steps on my Thinkpad X40 succesfully. I assume the same exact procedure will allow you to upgrade the WIFI card on your X24. Good luck. Any problems or questions just send me an email. Daniel.
