I have an A31p that I am told the Video Controller Adapter is bad. Is this a part that I can replace without full dissassembly? Where is it located? and if the replacment of the Video Controller Adapter did require disassembly is there a technical service manual available for this machine on the web?
Have any of you ever had an A31p apart?
Thanks in advance for your reply.

There is a decent chance it is still under warranty. I would check that out first.

A Scrap A31p with bad video controller adapter fix or no
Greetings...
Why would a novice consider taking two junk A31 computers apart and cross breeding them into a whole complete A31p, if they didn't know what they were doing.... The only answer seems like... to risk some money and try to learn something
I talked to IBM and they said they would be glad to help out ... Ibm would charge $425 to replace a system board on an A31 that is out of warranty.
I assume these are out of warranty. After all who would sell a broken thinkpad if it was still under warranty and Ibm would fix it for free.
I just happen to have some parts like an extra hard drive, Ac adapter and a Combo drive for this computer and was feeling lucky.. I have not purchased the junk yet so I may be well ahead.
What do you think... Anyone out there ever do something so silly.
Thanks for your comments.
I hope your all having a very good day.
