A31 P4 in constant sleep mode only blk screen

I have an A31 and there is no video when I turn on the power button. The operating system failed and I reloaded XP and it worked for a couple days and now it seems to be in constant sleep mode or something. I like dinking around with these laptops and was wondering if this is a "parts" unit or can be more. It's a P4 256 and I took the 60g hardrive out for a T2x upgrade but I have other drives and stuff. Thank you!

If you hold a flashlight up to the LCD, do you see a faint image as it's booting up?
