T21 And SSD, IDE

#1 Post by davjc83 » Sun May 29, 2011 12:12 am

I got a thinkpad t21 2647-47u its pretty much topped off cpu and mem wise, but I still wana speed it up a lil bit. I was checking some other posts out and noticed poeple put 7200rpm drives in a few, but I dont want to add another heat sorce! I was thinking SSD would be a good route now they have dropped in price a good bit. any opinions, advice or success stories? I was looking at a 16gig on ebay around $60, here are the specs.

■Brand: Kingspec
■Type: solid-state drive (SSD)
■Model: KSD-PA25.1-016MS
■Interface: IDE / PATA 44Pin
■Capacity: 16GB
■Flash Type: MLC

Sounds like a good plan as long as you don't have a lot of storage requirements, but you can use an UB2000 2nd Hard Drive tray or external USB storage for that.

Aren't there manufacturers of higher capacity IDE SSDs that would work in a T21?

Price to size wise that was the cheepest I have found for a new one. the down side is it ships from china, so it takes forever to ship. also if there is something wrong with it you gotta ship it back... I found a 2.5 IDE Compact Flash adapter for $12 and an 8g CF drive for $18 the adapter holds 2 drives so if it works i will by 2 more larger drives. and of course ill put up some reviews

Thanks. I'd be interested in what you find out. My T21 is semi-retired since I got the T410, but the HDD activity really slows it down. I've maxed out the CPU & RAM so I'd be interested in an SSD alternative to help speed it up but I don't want to spend a lot of money on such an old TP.
