System doesn't boot up, blue screen, runs in safe mode.
Today the laptop took a mild hit on arm chair and fan made strange noise as if it was getting stuck. I removed the fan, cleaned it and installed it back. The abnormal fan noise vanished but since then the system fails to start in normal mode. It shows a blue screen and something written like, page fault in non page area and then it restarts. I diagnosed the system using the thinkpad utility and it passed all the tests even fan test as well, RAM is working fine as well.
The system works in safe mode though, I writing this post from the same machine but in safe mode. How do I resolve this problem?

Reboot, press F8, select disable restart on system failure, and boot normally. What is the STOP code beginning with 0x? (just the first one, not the whole string)

THANKS. It worked. Should I format the Operating system and go for fresh install?

How did you fix it? Follow-up on what has happened would be appreciated, there may not be need for a reinstall just yet.raptorhertz wrote:THANKS. It worked. Should I format the Operating system and go for fresh install?

Re: System doesn't boot up, blue screen, runs in safe mode.
you will probably want to make sure you have backups - that was one of the symptoms of my t41 before it died of the southbridge. It would boot and run in safe mode (even safe mode with networking), but if you tried to run it in normal mode, it would either freeze or bluescreen. I'm glad that you got it working, hopefully it was just a freak incident (aka corrupted file that was repaired while starting in safe mode), because those are some of the nicest laptops ever made in terms of looks and feel IMHO.

Selected:- disable restart on system failure, after pressing F8. And worked normally.Nothing else I did. I have no idea why all this happened. But it's working fine now.hunterman223 wrote:How did you fix it? Follow-up on what has happened would be appreciated, there may not be need for a reinstall just yet.
@craigmontHunter:- I agree they are beautiful machines to work with.Quite reliable & sturdy.I use external storage for data storage.

It may have started, but to be safe I'd run some complete diagnostics and make sure it's seeing all your RAM and so on. Again, just to be on the safe side.

Definitely. It just doesn't add up that it would be fixed by essentially doing nothing. The PC Doctor DOS boot cd on the Lenovo drivers page for your model would be a good start. It tests pretty much everything.Mike Blake wrote:It may have started, but to be safe I'd run some complete diagnostics and make sure it's seeing all your RAM and so on.
