Runing a crucial SSD on t60 win XP Pro. I know there is no TRIM in XP.
The question is is there any degradation in READING speed in that case?
I know the write speed might degrade with time, but the SSD has garbage collection and the drive is rarely written to.
So the question is about the read speed. It seems that the softwares now start a bit slower than initially after the drive was cloned to the SSD.

Re: SSD and read speed without TRIM
Take a look at this guys blog about his macbook(non trim OS)...
http://jasonnash.wordpress.com/2010/11/ ... ed-in-osx/
About half way down he lists read and write speeds in both degraded state, then after he "refreshed" the drive... reads stayed very similar... I'll quote here...
Also, how are you avoiding writing to the drive... temp files, caches(firefox and others), no pagefile?, registry writes/fragmentation, etc?

and...Here were my degraded disk benchmark numbers from Xbench:
Sequential
Uncached Write: 65.49MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Write: 97.35MB/sec [256K blocks]
Uncached Read: 50.78MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Read: 200.86MB [256K blocks]
Random
Uncached Write: 25.86MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Write: 36.09MB/sec [256K blocks]
Uncached Read: 5.22MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Read: 176.47MB [256K blocks]
Although the "Uncached Read" for 4k blocks did improve quite a bit, 256k reads stayed about the same... so it looks like reads are affected somewhat... just nowhere near the extent of writes. Here are my benchmark numbers after the refresh:
Sequential
Uncached Write: 111.86MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Write: 98.37MB/sec [256K blocks]
Uncached Read: 49.94MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Read: 206.07MB [256K blocks]
Random
Uncached Write: 82.99MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Write: 101.69MB/sec [256K blocks]
Uncached Read: 16.17MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Read: 178.74MB [256K blocks]
Also, how are you avoiding writing to the drive... temp files, caches(firefox and others), no pagefile?, registry writes/fragmentation, etc?
