T500 - Battery & AC issue/question

#1 Post by jskowron77 » Sun Jun 05, 2011 7:41 am

Hello - I have a T500, running win7 64-bit, but am having a problem with the battery/ac with the laptop.

(I have tried multiple batteries).

Here's the situation -

I plug the laptop in the with the ac/power cord WITHOUT the battery in it, boots up fine, runs fine.

Shutdown laptop, keep ac plugged in, put battery back in (lock it), fire up latptop - works fine, even get the power mgmt/battery in task tray and according to that the battery is also charging. The green lights that indicate the battery, ac (wifi, etc) show battery. All good.

Now, unplug the ac/power from the back of laptop and the machine shuts off. Even more so, the laptop will not restart, or show any signs of power until I remove the battery, replug the ac without the battery installed, and start the process over.

Any ideas? I plan to pop open the case to install some additional memory, but I am not familiar with laptop battery/ac setups.

I've heard rumors that, basically, i'm screwed and would need a new motherboard, which is not likely worth the cost given the age of the laptop overall.

Thanks in advance for any/all reply's,
--Jeff

hi Jsk*;
from what you described - there COULD BE NUMBER of issues / parts failed / etc etc

SOme things to try:
1) One of MAIN reasons of laptop SHUT'ing down ' startic discharge' (these were very common in the earlier T6x series) that sorts out the DIODE that controls the 'signal to the PS Controller board. So to test it = to make sureyour laptop is well 'grounded' and remove battery sloooowly. This static charge is very small charge and often enough to cause havoc !
2) Dead PS controller board - thats switches PWOER SOURCES best way to fix this is send to Lenovo for rapairs

Hope this helps
Cheers
