It's because that systems has no classic BIOS but UEFI and the system's HDD/SSD doesn't use classic partition but some special without MBR type. Anyway, T61p contains classic BIOS system so your only option is to use fast SATA SSD to increase booting times. Hope this helps.

Lenovo EE and E^2 are proprietary software schemes using proprietary algorithims. Cannot be duplicated by anyone other than the geniuses at Lenovo Thinkpad. What you can do is MSCONFIG some of your start programs out and add memory and as another participant suggested upgrade to an SSD. In order those are your cheapest to most expensive options and from least effective to most effective.

To get a really fast boot you need to combine both an SSD and some heavy configuration of Windows.

A part of getting to your desktop faster is reducing the amount of stuff that needs to load. From the run prompt type in "msconfig" and go to the Startup tab. Uncheck any software you don't need or want to run automatically with Windows.

Next go back to the run prompt and type in "services.msc". Now go through the services and disable (or put on manual if you want) any you don't need. The descriptions tend to be pretty good but if you need more clarification on a service Google it for more information. Once you have done that go back through and change any services to delayed start that aren't critical for Windows. This means you should get to your desktop quicker.

A SSD will go a long way to giving you a faster boot though. It probably has a bigger impact than anything else.

For services I recommend Black Viper's Website

Another nice program for cleaning is HijackThis, be really carefull with it though, Google is definately your friend when choosing what to "fix" with this app. It is pretty advanced.

Defragging a platter drive can get you decent boot speeds as well.

In my experience, tweaking Windows 7's own services doesn't yield much of an improvement. Sometimes, it makes it worse.

There is still some tweaking that can help, MS actually got a lot of it right on 7 SP1 :P

but if you don't use IPv6, IP Helper can be disabled for sure... there are a few others, just depends on the setup.

True. WMP Network Sharing defaulted to automatic in RTM, but it looks like they changed that with SP1.

If your system shipped with EE you can get much of the same improvements by installing the Lenovo drivers, since EE is mostly driver tweaks.
