Anyone know where to get a 7mm SSD > 200GB

#1 Post by WilsonF » Thu Jun 09, 2011 9:44 am

Does anyone know where to get a 7mm SSD>200GB? I am getting a new X220 and need a larger HDD. I would prefer 256GB. I can find these on the OEM sites, but can't find any available for sale.

Thanks.
Wilson

Amazon is showing 1 in stock right now! --> http://www.amazon.com/Intel-SATA-2-5-In ... B004T0DNPG

(These are backordered in most places and hard to get right now - there is also a 600GB model offered by Intel, Amazon has one available for $1,350.)

This is for the Intel 320 series 300GB SSD, 2.5" & 7mm thick (after removing spacer). I used one in a T420s a couple of weeks ago.

Crucial M4 256G will do the job after removing the plastic spacer and fitted with the shorter screw.
However, be aware of the freezing issue that can be fixed.
Take a look at this http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=96794

The 320 works great - I have one in my x220. You need M2x3mm screws when you remove the spacer.

Hope this helps.

I managed to fit a 9mm SSD into the slot. Just don't use the rubber shock mounts that come with the 7mm HDD

yes, the 9mm SSD fits in the X220

Suppose that's not too bad with an SSD, not so good with an HDD. Are SSDs totally impervious to shock?

They're a circuit board with a bunch of chips, just like the laptop's system board, so yeah, rubber pads aren't needed.

Why not pick up the mSATA drive and then the 320GB hard drive?
