PS3 vs Xbox 360 vs Wii

#1 Post by A31 » Fri Jun 10, 2011 12:28 am

What do you guys like or have, if you're gamers?

I've got a 360, because I prefer the Xbox's controller to that of the PS3. Was once a PS2 owner but sold it years ago and recently went on a PS2 after having used a 360 for a little while, and found the controller to feel really weird. Have also tried a Wii and didn't like it much, much preferred the 360.

I like racing games, so I am kind of regretting getting the Xbox 360 over the PS3 as the PS3 can run Gran Turismo, but I have Forza 3 on the Xbox and that's good enough, just the cars are a bit slow and don'r handle great if I'm honest.

Just interested to hear your thoughts, which did you go for, and why?

I don't really game on consoles, that's my 5yo's job...

The wife and daughter wanted a Wii (I did too only because of USBLoaderGX and it's 500GB hard disk)

The boy grew up (from age 2) on a PS/2(hard disk modded) and Xbox original(softmod 500GB)... when he wanted GTA4, we got him a 360 (decision tween it and a PS3 was mainly price)

We all own Nintendo DS's(Acekard/Edge/R4 clone flashcarts) (the boy is getting a DSi XL in a month for his birthday), obviously the boy uses his (thus the upgrade), the rest of us use ours occasionally (waiting rooms and the like).

I do all my gaming on the PC, Can't mod stuff like Oblivion/Fallout/EE AOC on a console... as you might have noticed, I mainly like the non PC gaming devices to play around with in terms of modding/hacking, the PC's are all homebrew/hackable to start with :)

I did go for the Wii, I'm not a hard core gamer and playing Mario Kart with my 8yo daughter and her friends makes a lot of fun.

Of course MK has not the definition of a Gran Turismo or any other PS3 racing game, but the fun factor is really high

I also own a DS Lite and a DS XL, the latter will be probably sold, I'm not really convinced about the screen resolution...

The Wii has prolly been the most versatile... we have the guitar, balance board, dance mats, sports mat, enhanced motion adaptors, and my wife bought those silly extensions to the controllers... you know those real looking bats, raquets, etc :P

Dance Dance has been a real hit with my daughter and her friends... they enjoy the 4 dance mats and all playing at the same time.

My son wants the Kinect now... that's the only bad part of consoles... the never ending accessories :P

I had forgotten about that one, we picked up a used mic at gamestop... and the daughter used to play some high school musical singing game, none were impressed.

I'm far from being a gamer, but do enjoy an occasional game of baseball, Mario Kart etc. with my kids on Wii.

Needless to say, I always lose... :)

We also have a PS2 (a hand-me-down to the young ones from their bachelor uncle) but I never got into that...

My favourite game back in the Sega days was Boogerman...anyone remembers that one?

How about from the aspect of media player??

I am interested in which you prefer for viewing pics, home movies, along with streaming some movies. My kids are just about to enter the age for playing these games and trying to decide which to go with. I currently have the Seagate GoFlex TV and that has just been a pain in the arce!!

We usta use our Xbox (original) with XMBC to view pic, listen to music, and play videos... Since that time I built a media center pc running MythTV... It now does all the xbox did + record TV.

I store all our DVD's 3 ways, originals on a shelf, ISO's on NAS, and mkv(matroska video file) in sizes 350 to 500MB each depending on content. I don't think any of the consoles will play this format. The Wii is prolly not powerfull enough for HD... I can't comment on the PS3, but I dont like the interface on the 360 for all of the above... music is the worst for me (only really used any of it when we 1st got it "just to see" :P

So anyhow... MythTV = Media Center, TIVO(+auto commercial skip), DVD player, MythGame(for all the emulators including MAME), web browser, security cam viewer/recorder, CallerID box, FAX receiver... much much more... Don't know how we ever lived without it :P
