ZORIN

#1 Post by retired » Sun Jun 12, 2011 7:22 am

I've tried 'em all - for years and I'm not easily impressed till last night ! Downloaded Zorin core (free) and was so impresses I wiped out my Mint 11 and installed it. See for yourself, down load it and put it on a usb stick with unetbootin. For me it's like taking Mint to the next level.

Congrats on finding a Ubuntu GUI that you like! But, I gotta ask why? Seems to me if someone wants Linux to look like Windows, why not just use Windows? Sure, most Windows apps will run under WINE, but they run better and with less configuration on Windows. I guess I just don't get it. And yes, I have tried Zorin, but soon went back to Debian or Fedora.

Q - Since you can use the Gnome desktop in Zorin, is there something about the Gnome implementation in Zorin that you like better than Mint Gnome?

I'm not really a fan of ubuntu, but the zorian 5 spin released recently has really surprised me. It's not the windows similiarity but other things - it's surprisingly speedy for it's size, I've been able to easily configure it to suit my needs, and it's doing a number of things in a new way that I haven't seen before. It's not really one or two things but a lot of innovations in 5. I've been using linux for about 11 years now, full time, Pclos for many years and switched over to mint Debian / 11 to avoid kde4. Now Zorin. I would suggest you checkout 5 and see if the new version appeals to you.

OK, I'll give it a spin. I don't remember what version it was that I last tried.
