Battery issues, bad MOBO or bad Battery???

#1 Post by jgrobertson » Sun Jun 12, 2011 8:45 am

I bought a 3rd party battery for my T60P about a year ago. I was giving me about 2.5 hours with the message that I don't have a Lenovo battery.

Well, recently it started only running a few minutes on battery, now it is zero. Unplug the power with battery installed and the unit goes dead. With the battery installed and ON POWER, it will run only about 3 minutes before freezing up and requiring a forced power off. It is then very hot on the bottom. Then on reboot the I have to run repair or it won't boot. With the batter out and running on power it is fine. The manager shows the battery to be fully charged.

Is this the battery or is there something else wrong in my computer? I have the recent power drivers and manager installed.

Your machine is most likely fine and well, but you do need a new - preferably genuine - battery.

ThinkPads of this era tend to freeze when the battery goes bad, or refuse to fully boot altogether.

Try running on AC adapter only (no battery installed) and see what happens.
