A31 Security Lockout
A31 Security Lockout
I have a pair of A31's (2652-J3U) and when I replaced their ram with 2 sticks of Corsair Value Select PC-2700 (256MB) modules they completely locked down, asking for a bios password (which I have never set) at boot. Has anyone heard of or experienced this issue before? Is this something I would need to contact IBM support to unlock? Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
After changing the amount of RAM you would need to go into BIOS then "Save and Exit" to accept the new configuration.
It will ask for a BIOS password even if none is set. You should be able to enter a blank password (just press Enter) and get in if there really is no password.
It may let you into BIOS but not save your changes if there IS a password set and you don't enter it. If that is the case you would need to clear the BIOS password - the instructions are in the Hardware Maintenance Manual.
