T43 missing 2 mb of memory

Hello,

I have been getting lately a lot of windows errors that are possibly related to RAM. Booting with one memory stick, the diagnostic start up showed 510 mb instead of 512. When I inserted the second one back in, 1022 mb was shown.

Does this mean that there is something wrong with the first RAM stick, or are the megabytes going for some general system purposes?

Also where is the another memory stick located? One stick seems to be right under a panel on the bottom of the laptop, but do I have to remove the keyboard to gain access to the other one?

Yes, there is a RAM slot under the keyboard. Remove the four screws on the bottom that are labeled with a keyboard graphic, then move the keyboard slightly back toward the screen and lift up from the front edge. It's very easy, almost as easy as removing the cover on the bottom to the second RAM slot.

Try using Memtest86+ to check the RAM, that should tell you if there are any errors.

It's highly probable that the BIOS is just reserving it for it's own function. I wouldn't worry about it.
