Custom BIOS Boot-Splash [IMG]

#1 Post by hunterman223 » Wed Jun 15, 2011 4:18 pm

I found this online somewhere and changed it to work with the overlays on a T400, but it should work with most any other ThinkPad. I removed the Lenovo and Intel logos as the BIOS will overlay them automatically, and they were interfering.

I added my information to the top left corner, the template is still sort of there but I whited out some of my info. To use, edit to your liking and place in the directory where the BIOS setup extracts to, by default C:\DRIVERS\FLASH and execute LOGO.BAT. Before executing make sure your output is a 16-bit .BMP file with a resolution of 640x480, complex designs do not work well. Than update BIOS as normal, press yes to use custom logo.

Enjoy!

Note: Just to cover my butt, :P Any damages caused by the improper use of this file is absolutely not my responsibility. Read my post thoroughly, and read the instructions provided with the BIOS updater.

Update:
This is what the above picture actually looks like once applied. It's pretty blurry, but you get the idea. Notice the differences; the BIOS automatically overlays the Lenovo logo, the Intel logo, and the ThinkVantage button message. The small font I used when I made the picture above shows up nice and big, easily readable with a tap of the "Pause" button.

Note: in case it is unclear, do not use this picture as the custom boot splash, the overlays will interfere with each other. This is a picture I took with a camera to show how it actually comes out.

GDay Hinter !
Prety COOL BEANS !!! > however , this is NOT NEW

(we have similar of not same IDEA as yours ,,, combined with CUSTOM BIOS PASSWORD LOGIN SCREEN) ............

Not sure HOW the BIOS OWNERS and TM & COPYRIGHT issues were/are addressed with YOUR CHANGES , but we had to get OFFICIAL PERMISSIONS tfrom Pheonix to do our changes !

FYI.....
Since you have made an "exclusions statement" your butts seems to be covered ,,,, but your might want to check on that !

Cheers everyone !

I know it's not new, but no one seems to have officially provided one. :)

About the permissions issue, as Lenovo provides the batch file to prepare it and a text file with instructions on how to do it and which images are allowed, I think it must be okay. Lenovo's provided bios updated even scans the directory for a prepared file. Maybe this varies depending on the situation, such as in a commercial environment? I'm not sure. I'll check out the official Lenovo readme again.

Edit: the custom login screen you mentioned, is that a custom Windows login screen or a custom BIOS password screen? If the latter, how did you do it? That would be great for people who don't know how to pause the POST sequence.

Gday;
Sorry those ARE and always will be the OWNERS copyrights (which is not me) - we just use it/ those for login; random/custom - encrypt; (custom apps) for BIOS & HARD DRIVE encryptions etc - thats why they ARE SECURE LOGIN !

I jsut wanted to add that its nothing new from what you did and YES Lenovo DOES provide documentations for BIOS changes to a very narrow window of changes permitted

Cheers

Thanks. I was not asking for the specific files and software that you use, just some info on how to do it. I have googled numerous times but nothing comes up for the password prompt. I will keep looking though as I think it would be a great addition to my custom BIOS image.
