X61s Wirless Modem

#1 Post by tchettle » Fri Jun 17, 2011 11:46 am

Hi i have a X61s with a 3G card
Upgraded to windows 7 and cant get the card to work. Have installed the drivers from the Lenovo site and it appears in the Listing on the bottom of the monitor. However my vodafone mobile connect software shows it but when i try and enable it it tels me that it. that the Device is currently in use.

I cant find the think access connections for windows 7

Any suggestions

Moved to the X6X forum...not a Howto or FAQ.

Too many unknowns to be able to reply intelligently. Please clarify:
- It worked under some other Windows, e.g., XP, but does not under Windows 7 ... or... never worked?
- Internal or external 3G card?
- If internal, then is it the Lenovo 3G card for this machine (i.e., Sierra Wireless MC8775) ...or... some other card?
- If non-Lenovo card, then running standard or modified BIOS?

If it is an MC8775, then have you tried to connect using the Sierra Wireless 3G Watcher software? It is simple and elegant. Here it is:

Thank you for the reply sorry my initial Post was somewhat disjointed.

It is an Internal card Mc 8775 i have tried the software you suggested and that is reporting no device detected, Yet my vodfone connect software could see it I have uninstalled the vodafone software and the Sierra software still can't see it reports no device detected.

when i press Fn + F5 i only get options to toggle my bluetooth and Wireless card is this relevant ?
also checking in control panel devices its states that the HSPDA network device cant start.

I have confirmed that My Sim is data enabled and operates ok

thanks

Tim

Okay; yet still unclear because I need answers to the other questions above.

Is this a Lenovo-branded MC8775, i.e., is there a FRU# on the label of the card ..or.. is this a non-Lenovo MC8775? If non-Lenovo, then the standard BIOS would have turned off the card. If so, then you must place tape on Pin 20.

Once again: Is this a Lenovo-branded MC8775? Alternatively, has it ever worked in this X61s, under any operating system?

Yes, insofar as it indicates that the card is "off". See explanation above.

Its a genuine card that came with the laptop when i ordered it new

It worked fine when i had XP on the machine.
Since installing an SSD and putting windows 7 on from scratch i have been unable to get it to work.

Uninstall (if possible) all drivers and software installed for the MC8775. Then download and install the Sierra Wireless 3G Watcher Version 2849, which is Windows 7 compliant. Perhaps the version you tried was older and did not have Windows 7 support. Here is the link (AirCard 875U is an MC8775 + USB connector):

I'll join here, since I'm also working on a problem with the Lenovo-branded Sierra Wireless MC8775.
- Thinkpad X61s 7669-A32 (was preinstalled with the MC8775)
- BIOS up to date
- Windows 7 Professional, all Updates installed
My experience is as follows: the device is properly detected and worked everytime I do a cold start of the system (even the options in Fn+F5). After a sleep & wake up cycle, the watcher tells 'no device detected'. @tchettle: Does your card also work with Watcher in this way?

What I tried:
- initially I used the Lenovo driver package 7.02.1300
- I installed and deinstalled Access Connections
- disabling unused ports and modem (I hoped, it's some type of conflict there)
- Aircard Watcher 3.1.4 and 10.11.0.0 -> only result of 10.11.xx is, that after every cold start I get a 'Windows requires a digitally signed driver' due to unknown publisher of SwiProcMonitorDrv64.sys. Alltough, after pressing 'Close' the card works until next sleep.
- Updating the firmware of the MC8775 from 1.0.xxx to 2.0.8.19 (http://3g-modem.wetpaint.com/page/Sierr ... +&+MC8775v)
- upating the drivers from the same place to version 2.1.6.0
- after waking up, the device is also not visible in device manager

Nothing improved the situation yet. Seem like if the device is not properly powered on after sleep,
