T60p - 14.1" panel samsung or boe hydis?

#1 Post by zephirantes » Fri Jun 17, 2011 2:00 pm

hi guys,
I recently found a couple of brand new panels on ebay, they look original ibm spare parts.
right now my t60p has a samsung panel, it is a little dark and it has a couple of white spots, so i'd like to change it...and here comes the question: which one should I buy? the samsung or the boe hydis? any hints? are the same? anyone had a chance to compare them?

thanks for any advice

I prefer BOE, but other people would disagree. (I like Toshiba/TMD better than either of the others on this model) Make sure the panel has an FRU sticker that has the part number from a T60. Many of the panels that say they are for T60, but they were really from T43 or earlier. Those will have the same manufacturer's part number but a different revision. They are wired differently and will not have the configuration chip. They can blow your motherboard.

Pardon my curiosity, but what makes anyone prefer such a Toshiba/TMD LCD over one of the BOE Hydis Flexview displays?

As i will need to buy an UXGA display for a 15"T60 sometime in the not too far future, it would be good to know which LCD type would be preferable to purchase.

EDIT: Nevermind, i just found http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=40808 via the forum search, and it should be enough to quell my boundless and annoying curiosity. ;)
And according to http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/TFT_display there obviously doesn't even exist any TMD 15"UXGA LCD anyway.

The Op is talking about 14'1" LCD's. They did not come in a flexview version. Your T60 project is an entirely different platform with 15" LCD's.

thanks richk. the picture of the panel shows a label with PN 13N7060, so it shouldn't be good for the t60 (the PN should be 13N7061)
unfortunately the toshiba/tmd is almost impossible to find, so i guess i'll go for the samsung.

thanks everyone

I also sent this via PM in case you don't read the forum. I think 13N7061 and 13N7060 are the same. 13N7061 is the FRU number (field replacable unit) and 13N7060 is the part number
